A standard roof, also known as a regular roof or a pitched roof, has roof panels that are installed at a slight angle and slope down from the highest point of the roof toward the edges. This design allows water, snow, and other debris to run off the roof and prevents the accumulation of water on the roof, which can lead to leaks and damage.

What is a vertical roof?

On the other hand, a vertical roof has roof panels that are installed vertically, with the top edge of the panels being parallel to the ground. This design allows water, snow, and other debris to easily slide off the roof and away from the building, preventing the accumulation of water on the roof. The vertical orientation of the roof panels also allows the roof to be more durable and able to withstand high winds and heavy snowfall.

Advantages of a vertical roof

One of the key advantages of a vertical roof is its ability to provide better protection for the building and its contents. The vertical orientation of the roof panels allows water, snow, and other debris to easily slide off the roof, preventing the accumulation of water on the roof and minimizing the risk of leaks and damage. This is particularly important in areas that experience heavy rainfall or snowfall, as the vertical roof design can help to prevent water from entering the building.

In addition to providing better protection for the building, a vertical roof can also improve the appearance of the building. The vertical orientation of the roof panels creates a clean and modern look, which can enhance the overall aesthetic of the building. This is especially true when the roof panels are made from metal, which can be customized with different colors and finishes to match the style of the building.

Another advantage of a vertical roof is its versatility. A vertical roof can be used on a variety of building types, including residential homes, commercial buildings, garages, sheds, and carports. This versatility makes it a popular choice among homeowners and businesses alike.

The differences between a vertical roof and a standard roof

In terms of cost, a vertical roof is typically more expensive than a standard roof. This is because the vertical orientation of the roof panels requires more material and labor to install, which can drive up the cost of the roof. However, the added protection and durability provided by a vertical roof can make it a worthwhile investment, especially in areas that experience harsh weather conditions.

Overall, the difference between a vertical roof and a standard roof lies in the orientation and angle of the roof panels. A standard roof has roof panels that are installed at a slight angle, while a vertical roof has roof panels that are installed vertically. The vertical orientation of the roof panels on a vertical roof provides better protection for the building and its contents, and can also improve the appearance of the building. While a vertical roof may be more
expensive than a standard roof, it can provide added protection and durability that can make it a worthwhile investment.

Is It OK to Pressure Wash a Metal Roof? https://lionbuildings.com/is-it-ok-to-pressure-wash-a-metal-roof/ https://lionbuildings.com/is-it-ok-to-pressure-wash-a-metal-roof/#respond Mon, 02 May 2022 08:41:12 +0000 https://lionbuildings.com/?p=2283 Metal is the second most popular roofing material, trailing only asphalt shingles. As of 2015, 750,000 homeowners in the United States were estimated to have a metal roof. However, how do owners of metal-roofed homes safely clean them?

Pressure washing a metal roof is possible as long as you use a low-pressure setting and a nozzle tip with a wider tip. If you apply excessive pressure, you will eventually cause damage to the metal roof, even if it is not immediately visible.

If you decide to pressure wash or otherwise clean your metal roof, here are some factors to consider.

Safety

Your safety is paramount when cleaning any roof, but especially a metal one, which can become extremely slippery when wet. If you have a metal roof with a very steep slope, do not attempt to clean it from the top. You will almost certainly fall and sustain serious injuries, as there are very few places to gain your footing on a steeply sloped roof.

If your metal roof does not have a steep pitch, you can clean it from the top. Take precautions, however, and exercise caution while on the roof. Even after cleaning a metal roof, it can be quite slippery.

Pressure Washer

Is It OK to Pressure Wash a Metal Roof

Pressure washers are extremely simple to purchase or rent. However, even if you purchase a used pressure washer in good condition, they are quite expensive. You can rent one if you do not anticipate using a pressure washer frequently and do not wish to make a large investment; however, renting a pressure washer can be costly.

Renting a pressure washer from a home center typically costs between $40 and $100 per day, depending on the type of pressure washer and the location where you rent it.

In most cases, the pressure washer will include the tips, but you should double-check the product description to ensure that they are included before purchasing the pressure washer unit. If the pressure washer does not include hose tips, they are inexpensive and readily available.

Avoid climbing on a metal roof with a moderate to high pitch when cleaning it. This is extremely dangerous, and you will have a difficult time gaining a foothold.

Can You Walk on a Metal Roof? https://lionbuildings.com/can-you-walk-on-a-metal-roof/ https://lionbuildings.com/can-you-walk-on-a-metal-roof/#respond Fri, 29 Apr 2022 07:50:37 +0000 https://lionbuildings.com/?p=2254 While we never suggest walking around on your metal roof, there are circumstances when it is necessary. Whether you are removing a fallen tree branch or inspecting the area around your chimney or checking in for possible bubble wrap insulation, you may get to a point when you’ll need to climb onto your roof.

Here are some safety considerations for walking on your metal roof, but only when absolutely necessary.

Walking on Metal Roofs: Four Steps to Take

Can You Walk on a Metal Roof?

  1. It’s a good idea to start by consulting the manufacturer’s recommendations for the best way to walk on that particular roof product. Having stated that here are some suggestions:
  • Standing seam roofing can be walked on in almost any location without causing damage.
  • Metal tile roofing (ribbed panels that mimic ceramic tile or shake) should only be stepped on in areas that are closer to the roof decking.
  • Additionally, corrugated panels are safe to walk on because they are screwed directly to the roof decking. However, it is prudent to walk on the lowest portions of such panels.
  • When walking on metal shingles, it is recommended to do so on the upper half of the shingle panel, where the airspace between the metal is the smallest. If you suspect regions of high foot activity, you may want to consider placing foam backers under those shingles. This will assist in firming up particular regions, allowing them to better manage foot traffic.
  1. The general advice is to walk closer to the decking sections, avoiding laps and ribs.
  2. Wear shoes with a cushioned sole
  3. If you feel as though you have debris underfoot, take care not to grind it in, as this will harm the metal surface.

Put on a pair of rubber-soled shoes.

The shoes you wear are critical for maintaining the integrity of your roof and your own safety. When walking on metal, it is advisable to wear soft, rubber-soled shoes such as sneakers to maximize grip and traction.

Additionally, you should inspect the soles of your shoes for dirt, debris, or small gravel that could scrape and harm your panels. Always inspect for anything that could impair the traction of your shoe. We never recommend working on your roof in open-toed shoes.

Select A Cloudy Day

Plan your visit to your metal roof around the weather conditions. NEVER attempt to climb onto your roof if precipitation is expected, as metal can become extremely slippery in wet weather. Additionally, we do not encourage climbing onto your roof on a particularly sunny and hot day, as metal can become extremely hot due to its reflecting properties. Choose a dry, cloudy day with no chance of rain!
